In Oslo

May 27, 2010

voy-john_dee_ashmoleanFive days in and still feeling it. That’s some good news right there. It is – however – lonely out here, with none of my brothers to lean on. While playing I do alright, it’s after the show you feel it. Coming to an empty dressing room, with your laptop as sole company. When I was young that was all I needed really. I could stay in doors and write for hours on end, listening to the same record on repeat. Now I need the comfort of companionship, conversation and comradery. Or else I’ll end up doing nothing. Watch episode after episode of whatever show I can get my hands on. As of late it’s been a somewhat dystopian theme to everything I watch. Just finished the second and last season of Carnivàle – and loved every single moment of it. The Book Of Eli was pretty much as bad as I expected. The Road is next on the list. I loved the book, even though it took me four months to finish, so I hope the movie will be easier to devour. I couldn’t tell you why everything I watch these days is about the Apocalypse, but I guess it’s gotta mean something, right? Shit …

So I played Århus, love that place Voxhall, I played Storan in Göteborg and tonight I play John Dee in Oslo. Come tomorrow when I leave the buss, my feet will land on the soil of home – Stockholm. See you there …

In Copenhagen

May 23, 2010

4c4408a5529df8406339796060e05db3And so the journey begins … in the most beautiful of ways. As I look upon my train ticket, I realize my seat number is 24. I swear. Car number one, seat number 24, window. First class. It’s real nice and quiet here. Lots of room to stretch them old legs. No one next to me. No cell phones. No talking really. Just the sound of magazines and newspapers having their pages flipped. If people talk, they tend to semi whisper. It’s almost like a church, or a library. On wheels. With hydraulic stabilizers. And Wi-Fi.

It’s been about seven years since I last went on a tour all by my lonesome.
Right now I feel trapped in an emotional vortex and I’ll have to get back to you on how I feel about it.

First stop Copenhagen … to play Lille Vega for the 2nd time. Tiger Lou came here in 2004. The place looks just as awesome as I remembered. It was hotter than hell up on stage, which makes for great special effects – as I sweat waterfalls! Felt a wee bit insecure up there, but had a fun time nonetheless. A very friendly crowd of a few hundred danes made me feel right at home. So thanks to all y’all! Right now Wovenhand are playing doomsday folk with great looking hats and beautiful guitars, so me and my Jameson are heading upstairs for a peak. Nice chaps from what I can tell so far … letting me stay in their buss and all …and in a few we’re off to Århus. How beautiful life can be …

D-day …

May 18, 2010

In just a few hours the clock strikes twelve and today becomes yesterday. Once more I sit here, sipping a glass of Cab and thinking to my self: Why have I gone and done such a stupid ass thing like write, record and release another new album? The answer is: simply because I have to. No matter how angry, sick or horny I get, how depressed or manic I feel, the music always prevail over emotion. You see, that’s the beauty of it. It’s so simple. Find something you enjoy, and keep doing it until you can’t muster it no more. What else is there?

So in a few hours: just as tomorrow becomes today, my 7th album (if you count them all) becomes public property. I hope y’all like it. This one is as much from the heart as it is from the gut. It is the start of something new. A door has been opened – if you will – and I invite you inside.

Here’s a picture of Johan and Simon who shot the video for “The 24th”.
