Rode in around 11 am, and started with recording the last of the vocals, and harmonies. Then I started stripping the songs down to their core, mocking around with the arrangements, muting things on and off. What I realized was that the tighter the suit, the better the fit. I just took away a lot of tracks, keeping it close to a trio-vibe with one or two melodic add-ons. For the solo songs, this means guitar, voice, and some harmonies be they voice or instrument. And for the “band-tracks”, just add bass and drums to the mix. I want the songs to really feel sparse and intimate. Most of the time I’m trying to tell some kind of story, and it’s fairly easy to loose track of that once you add a lot of shit. So I spent most of today cleaning up the mess. Managed to drink a few beers and listen to the songs with Fredrik and José who came by around 10 pm, bringing with them creative offerings in the form of pizza! We had a great talk and they helped put me at ease, and gave me the focus to finish all the 15 songs during the night. Crashed around 7 am, ears beaten to pulps and with a cyanide breath. Tomorrow is another day.
